Pop music may not lend itself well to rocking out hard, but it's more recognizable and thus less intimidating to mainstream-minded nongamers. SingStar is positioned as a casual-friendly game in a way that, in my experience, Rock Band isn't. Whatever it is, one thing's for sure: the experience of belting out New Kid's On The Block's " Step by Step" at 4 o'clock in the morning with a room full of people singing along far surpassed even the most outrageous moments of Rock Band around these parts. The game includes such timeless "classics" as Savage Garden's " I Want You," Sir Mix-A-Lot's " Baby Got Back," Seal's " Kiss From A Rose," and arguably the greatest music game inclusion ever, MC Hammer's " U Can't Touch This." Perhaps it's the additional EyeToy functionality that puts you and your friends on the screen and ignites that inner desire to show off on camera.

Perhaps it's the blend of signature '90s tracks amongst a dorm full of the youth of that era.
